CRA approves change to Sanders Park pickleball plan after neighborhood pushback

CRA staff said a door-to-door survey initially indicated support for pickleball, but subsequent user feedback prompted the scope-change request. Staff presented a revised proposal from Advantage Courts increasing the project cost to $79,954 from an earlier $50,248 (an increase of $29,706). "This revised cost proposal by Advantage Courts is now $79,954 versus $50,248," CRA staff stated (S16).
Commissioners and advisory-board members described mixed reactions: some longtime basketball players wanted to retain their court; advisory boards recommended proceeding despite one dissenting vote on the advisory board over cost. Commissioners asked whether the survey results fairly represented users; one commissioner noted the people supporting pickleball had not realized which court would be converted and that users of the court objected.
The CRA voted to authorize the city manager to execute the revised Advantage Courts proposal and change the scope of work for $79,954.
Next steps: staff will execute the revised contract and oversee the work to implement the swapped court uses and the reduced number of pickleball courts.
