FPRA staff preview Western Peninsula charrette next steps, incubator opening and grant opportunities

FPRA staff provided project updates to the board on Nov. 12, reporting next steps for the Western Peninsula charrette, the Incubate Neighborhood Center and new grant opportunities.
Cheyenne Harnage told the board that the charrette held Oct. 30 produced materials and a work-in-progress presentation, which is available on the FPRA page of the agency’s redevelopment-projects website. Harnage said staff expect the draft plan with 3D renderings to return to the board in January or February 2025.
Miss Cox said FPRA grant rounds for a façade/sign program and a paint program are now open and that staff will distribute application information to the public. She also updated the board on the Incubate Neighborhood Center, saying the building is close to ready and the agency expects to revise the lease in the short term so the center can open in the interim.
Board members highlighted recent façade grant recipients and asked that staff continue monitoring a related community policing pilot and parking-infrastructure projects tied to downtown redevelopment. Commissioners also noted five surplus properties identified in the staff report and reiterated the strategic importance of disposing of underused parcels to support reinvestment and tax revenue.
Staff did not set definitive action dates beyond returning the charrette draft in early 2025; several commissioners asked for future reports on community policing patrols and parking implementation.
