Germantown sets public hearing for updated occupational safety and health program

Director Purdue told the board the ordinance on first reading would update Division 2 (Occupational Safety and Health Program) to ensure continued compliance with the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1972 and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TOSHA) requirements. The ordinance establishes that the city administrator will designate a safety director to plan, develop and administer the program and that amendments may be recommended by resolution.
Director Purdue said the final safety program plan will be presented to the board as a resolution following final ordinance reading and that the plan supports the city's strategic objective to deliver service excellence and protect employee well-being. The board moved, seconded and approved first reading and set a public hearing date; staff will present the program as a resolution on March 9, 2026.
No substantive opposition or technical changes were recorded during the initial review; aldermen indicated intent to "dig in more with staff" ahead of the public hearing.
