St. Lucie County presents draft regional resilience plan; Fort Pierce to provide input

County resilience staff and consultants presented a draft Regional Resilience Plan and vulnerability assessments (flooding and other hazards), noted CDBG mitigation and Resilient Florida funding, and asked the commission for feedback before returning a final plan in January.
St. Lucie County staff and consultants briefed the Fort Pierce City Commission on a draft Regional Resilience Plan and companion vulnerability assessments on Dec. 8.
Sandra Bogan, the county's resilience navigator, said the project was funded by a CDBG mitigation grant with support from Resilient Florida and combined science-based assessments, GIS mapping and extensive community outreach. "The plan is the idea was to look at various impacts of natural hazards like flooding and storms, now and in the future and develop strategies that we can take individually as a jurisdiction or together as a full community to reduce our risks," she said.
Consultant Erin Dady reviewed modeling horizons (2040, 2070 and scenario work on 2100) and described mapping of tidal flooding days, storm-surge and rainfall-inundation scenarios and a sensitivity analysis that overlays assets with flood layers. The team said they ranked assets 1'5 by importance and will provide a map viewer for staff use.
Presenters emphasized the plan is a nonbinding roadmap that identifies gray- and green-infrastructure options, policy recommendations, emergency-management priorities, and community-education strategies. Bogan said she expects the commission's feedback to be integrated and the final plan to return in a future public meeting, with follow-up materials and jurisdiction-specific policy memos due in January.
