At its March 11 meeting the Hibbing City Council approved the consent agenda after the mayor read a sequence of routine financial, personnel and permit items.
The consent agenda recorded accounts payable dated Feb. 26, 2026 (checks 182199–182282) totaling $1,274,593.02 and accounts payable dated March 10, 2026 (checks 182283–182330) totaling $3,343,105.05. The council also approved city payroll for the pay period ending Feb. 20, 2026 in the amount of $681,922.81.
The consent agenda included personnel actions such as authorization to post and fill summer seasonal and full‑time positions, the hire of James Varda for seasonal maintenance (pending preemployment contingencies), and the promotion of Spencer Hernesman to firefighter‑paramedic effective March 12, 2026. It also authorized purchases and permits including an asbestos removal contract for $12,000, a curling‑club refrigeration compressor for $41,460, professional services for grant writing, and multiple special‑event and raffle permits.
Councilor Hoffman Sackmann moved to approve the consent agenda as read; the motion was supported and passed by voice vote.
