Hibbing OKs MOU with Precious Paws for animal intake through 2026

Hibbing’s City Council approved a memorandum of understanding to contract with the local nonprofit rescue Precious Paws to accept animals taken in by the city through December 31, 2026.
City Clerk Deputy Administrator Candi Cepalo told the council the city would pay Precious Paws a fee of $250 per cat that is approved for placement, and the same $250 fee would apply to kittens requiring greater care. Cepalo said the agreement continues a prior arrangement and includes payment for required veterinary services when animals need vetting.
Cepalo noted the only change from the prior agreement is the new contract end date: December 31, 2026. She also said she had met with Precious Paws executive director Carrie Nelson and treasurer Joe Keyes to review the coming “kitten season” and the nonprofit’s capacity.
Councillor Bayless moved to approve the MOU; Councillor Hildebrand supported the motion. The presiding mayor recorded an abstention; the motion carried.
The MOU delegates intake and placement to Precious Paws under the stated fees; the council did not detail additional funding sources for the payments during the meeting.
