Sweet Home board recognizes senior wrestler Sofia Guadania and honors coach Brandon Woods; superintendent details conference day and scholarships

Superintendent Janestri opened her report by recognizing student athletes and staff achievements, inviting senior Sofia Guadania to the front of the board to receive district recognition for her contributions to establishing the girls wrestling program.

Town Supervisor Sean Lavin read a proclamation into the record honoring "Sofia Guadania, a senior at Sweet Home High School," noting her leadership in co-founding the girls wrestling program and a strong competitive record. Lavin said the town presented the proclamation to place Sofia's accomplishments on the public record.

Janestri also introduced Coach Brandon Woods after the district learned he had been named ECIC Coach of the Year; Woods thanked the administration, coaches and families and spoke about program values including "family, sacrifice, togetherness and persistence." Janestri and Woods highlighted the role of staff and alumni in supporting student-athletes and development opportunities.

In other superintendent business, Janestri summarized the district's superintendent conference day: 162 responses across 61 session offerings and 91% of respondents agreed the schedule was well structured. Sessions ranged from literacy and STEM to wellness offerings such as yoga and a student-led restorative-practices session.

Janestri also promoted the Dollars for Scholars raffle fundraiser at Saint Leo on April 17 (presale $10, door $12), noting that last year the program awarded about $107,000 in scholarships and that this year the district expects to award close to $130,000. She reminded seniors that scholarship applications for the class of 2026 are due Friday at 11:59 p.m.
