The Johnston County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation March 16 recognizing National Surveyors Week, March 15–21, 2026, and thanked local and state surveying professionals for their role in community planning and infrastructure.
Mike Kraus, who identified himself as a registered surveyor and president of the Johnston County chapter of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors, and Shane Strickland, introduced as president of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors, addressed the board and thanked commissioners for issuing the proclamation. Vice Chairman Lawler read the proclamation’s findings and moved its adoption; the board voted aye.
The board asked surveyors in the audience to stand and be recognized. The proclamation encourages public awareness of the surveying profession and its contribution to property boundary determination, mapping and infrastructure work in the county.
