The Houston County Board of Education on a 6–0 vote approved a process to fill the vacant Post 5 board seat, setting application instructions and a timeline for public comment and final appointment. Board member Mister Crockett made the motion to adopt the procedure and Mister Ivory seconded it.
Under the approved process, the board will accept resumes and letters of interest beginning immediately through 4 p.m. Friday, March 20. Submissions may be emailed to Claudia McDaniel at claudia.mcdaniel@hcbe.net or mailed to Claudia McDaniel, 1100 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069. Residents who live in the Post 5 district and submit materials will be allowed up to three minutes to address the board at the April 6 work session, to be held at Northside Middle School at 6 p.m.
The board will make a final appointment at its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7. The newly appointed member will serve the remainder of Mrs. Hughes' term, the motion said.
The vote was unanimous. Chair (first speaker) called for the hands vote and recorded the motion as carried.
