The Inver Grove Heights Environmental Advisory Commission voted to recommend that the city council approve its draft 2026 work plan, with members urging concrete steps and measurable goals.
Liz, city staff, presented the draft and said the document was updated to reflect feedback from the commission: “We talked about this extensively at our last meeting, and I just made some minor edits to include some of the things that the commission brought up.” The draft includes carrying forward Partners in Energy goals and a stated intention for the commission to participate in the city’s comprehensive plan update scheduled for 2026–2028.
Commissioners discussed the scope of the EAC’s responsibilities under city code and emphasized moving from high-level goals to specific, measurable steps. Commissioner Wallerich said the plan “looks good” and favored the edits; Commissioner Transalek urged an approach that would produce concrete action items from a work session rather than only conversation. Several commissioners recommended building assessment measures into the work plan so progress can be tracked.
Commissioner Mikulski moved that the commission recommend city council approval of the plan; Commissioner Killian seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
The recommendation now goes to the Inver Grove Heights City Council for consideration. The commission did not set a final adoption date at the meeting; staff said the draft will be forwarded per the commission’s motion and additional details would accompany the council packet.
The commission will revisit implementation steps at future meetings and during the planned 2026 EAC work session to define measurable objectives and reporting approaches.
