Parks and recreation staff report winter prep, CIP approval and upcoming programs

Park Superintendent Brian Stolbada told the commission crews are completing irrigation blowouts, winterizing splash‑pad features, removing nets and finishing leaf cleanup; South Valley punch‑list work is complete after staff supplemented the general contractor and costs will be held against retainage. "The crew's starting to wind down... we're starting to wrap up irrigation blowouts, building winterization," Stolbada said.
Recreation Superintendent Julie Dorsick said the community center’s programs are busy and that the winter brochure is at the printers and will be visible online on Nov. 13; activity registration will open Nov. 20 at 12:00 noon. She listed upcoming holiday events including the tree‑lighting on Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m. and a lighting ceremony on Nov. 28 tied to a private donation. Dorsick also noted the department is finalizing contracts and a software transition to support the 2026 schedule.
Director Adam Wallace reported that the city council approved the five‑year CIP that includes parks projects and that council also approved a new Parks and Recreation administrative specialist position to support finance and administration functions; the posting opened Nov. 11 and will remain active through Nov. 30. Wallace described the advertised hourly range as beginning in the low $30s with a top step near $40 per hour and said staff will overlap to onboard the new hire before a planned retirement next February. He also noted that Brian Stolbada was nominated for the city’s Bridge Builder award to be presented at the State of the City.
Commissioners thanked staff for the updates and shared brief holiday well wishes before adjourning the meeting.
