Committee keeps Elmhurst Drive parking change under review after reports of nighttime blocking

The law and ordinance committee considered a request to convert part of Elmhurst Drive to a no-parking street. The presiding member said Safety Service has not expressed a desire to make the street no parking and noted Augusta Drive — a nearby parallel street — did not appear to have the same issues. The chair opened the floor for discussion.
A committee member who reviewed the area said they observed vehicles parked along Elmhurst Drive mainly at night and that parked cars sometimes extend into the roadway and block driveway exits. The member said, “So I think it's more at night...it hinders the person backing out of the driveway because the car is right there and they have to back out.” They also noted much parking is on the road rather than on grass and asked staff to follow up with residents who raised the concern.
After the exchange, the committee voted to keep the Elmhurst Drive item open for further consideration and requested additional spot checks and follow-up information before returning the item to a future meeting.
