Newman City police investigate fatal shooting on Octavia Place

Newman City Police Chief Brent Blankenship said officers responded at about 11:23 p.m. on March 31, 2026, to reports of gunfire on Octavia Place, where they found 38-year-old Hunter Ross Williams of Coweta County suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Williams was transported to a local hospital for treatment and "despite life saving efforts, he was later pronounced deceased," Blankenship said.
"At this time, the suspect has not been identified, and the investigation remains active and ongoing," Blankenship said, urging anyone with information to come forward. The department provided a tip line and asked witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact Lieutenant Chris Robinson at (770) 254-2355, extension 155.
The department did not provide further details about a possible motive, a suspect description, or whether any arrests had been made. Blankenship said the investigation is active and declined to offer additional operational details during the short statement.
Police asked members of the public to report any video, photographs, or other information that could assist investigators. The department said it will release more information when it is verified and appropriate for public release.
