Killeen recreation staff presented an inclusive‑recreation initiative March 24 that includes a pilot adaptive aquatics program, community events, an adaptive recreation coordinator position and long‑range plans for inclusive playgrounds or a Miracle Field.
Staff said the adaptive aquatics pilot would be hosted at the Zinner Family Aquatic Center with accessible features and trained staff; the presenter outlined estimated one‑time rental and equipment costs for an externally produced program and cited an internal option to deliver programming within existing budgets. "The ways of inclusion adaptive aquatics program will deliver a vital service to the community," the presenter said, describing low participant‑to‑staff ratios and the use of adaptive equipment.
Staff requested a motion of direction to continue planning, identify funding levels and return with a comprehensive long‑range plan; council approved the direction and the motion carried 4–0. Staff said they will pursue partnerships, leverage grants and coordinate regional collaboration with neighboring municipalities and Fort Hood morale and welfare organizations.
