Killeen council rezones multiple small parcels to bring two‑family homes into compliance

The Killeen City Council voted March 24 to approve four city‑initiated rezonings that will bring multiple existing two‑family homes into compliance with current zoning.
Staff told the council the rezonings are intended to resolve legal nonconforming status for small clusters of homes and to align zoning with existing residential use. Planning and Zoning recommended approval of each request by a 4–0 vote, and no members of the public signed up to speak at the hearings.
The items approved included changes along Wood Avenue, Rocky Lane, West Jasper Drive and the Western Hills subdivisions. Council members moved and seconded each item, and motions carried 4–0.
Staff said rezoning will remove restrictions that otherwise prevent rebuilding or expanding nonconforming structures in case of destruction and will help property owners sell or refinance in the future. The items will be codified through ordinances to be published after adoption.
