Commission approves up to $1,000 to relocate donated community piano to Fine Arts Center pavilion

Steve proposed moving the instrument into the Fine Arts Center pavilion to protect it from the elements and requested a maximum appropriation of $1,000 from MPAC funds for moving, tuning, paint and signage.
Steve asked the commission to authorize a not-to-exceed $1,000 allocation to prepare the piano for public placement. He said the money would cover an estimated $400 for moving, about $150 for tuning, and up to $450 for other prep and supplies, and he added the art gallery would be free to paint the instrument as a community project. "Do you want it right now?" Chair Karen Miscimmons asked; commissioners agreed to vote on a $1,000 maximum rather than line items at the meeting.
George seconded the motion. During discussion members debated whether to provide a protective cover and whether the gallery should lock the keyboard at night; commissioners also noted the gallery leases the land and that council approval would be required to disburse MPAC funds. The commission voted to approve the transfer of the piano to the Mesquite Fine Arts Center pavilion and to allocate up to $1,000 from MPAC funds to move and prepare it.
Commissioners asked Steve to provide an itemized line list for City Council consideration before funds are released.
