City staff said the Civil Service Commission had certified Ramchek on Aug. 5, 2025. The mayor presented Ramchek’s background: a graduate of Aquinas High School with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and a long record of service in training roles. Officer Jason Ramchek addressed the council, said he joined the Columbus Police Department in January 2000 and thanked the council for the appointment. He said he looks forward to guiding officers and continuing to serve the community.
Council moved and seconded the ratification; the motion passed as recorded in the transcript. Ramchek briefly addressed the council in the chamber following the vote.
