Frederick County School Board approves personnel actions, two construction contracts and routine minutes

The Frederick County School Board on March 17 ratified personnel actions taken in closed session, approved two construction contracts and completed routine committee business.

The board returned from a closed session that the board said addressed administrative appointments and individual student matters. A motion to approve personnel actions recommended by the superintendent passed by voice vote; the board also approved the release of “Student A” from compulsory attendance, a confidential action announced in open session. The board later affirmed, by vote, that the closed session discussed only matters lawfully exempted under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

In new business, the board approved two contract awards that came from the Building & Grounds Committee. Mr. Prosek moved to award a contract to Hobbs and Associates for HVAC RTUs for a project listed in committee materials as "Bridal J Howard" in the amount of $245,690; the motion passed by voice vote. The board also approved a contract to Diversified Education System Incorporated for millwork and casework at Middletown Elementary School for $280,110.

The board approved the consent agenda and the minutes for the Building & Grounds, Finance, Personnel and Instruction committees as presented. Superintendent Dr. Hummer outlined upcoming budget milestones related to the county process and a tentative school-board adoption date of April 21.

The meeting concluded with the chair announcing the next board meeting on April 21 and a motion to adjourn that passed on a voice vote.
