The council removed agenda item 5.6 from consideration on Feb. 3 to allow more communications with a proposed purchaser, the mayor announced after reading the item information into the record.
The mayor described item 5.6 as "the discussion regarding the purchase and sale agreement between the City of Mesquite and Commonwealth Development Corporation of America for 15 acres of city owned land located at APN number 002-12-801-003. File number NCS1259673MAD, with First American Title Insurance Company." A resident who attended said that was the primary reason they came and asked whether the council would resume previously negotiated compromises or start negotiations over.
Council members said there is an existing agreement in place but that more communication with the proposed purchaser is needed before the council acts. Councilman Wallace moved to pull item 5.6 from the agenda, a second was recorded, and the mayor called the vote.
The council did not debate the substance of the sale at the Feb. 3 meeting; the item was pulled to permit further discussions and staff follow-up. The council did not set a new hearing date at the session; the item will return when staff and the purchaser have resolved outstanding communications.
