Mesquite says paving work continuing; 24-inch Whitworth Trail water line break may require months-long closure

Travis (speaker 10) updated the council on multiple public-works projects: mill-and-fill paving on Mesquite Boulevard began earlier in the week, crews removed asphalt and paved multiple days, and contractors will refrain from Friday–Sunday work. He said crews are working from the Casa toward Grapevine and that the project includes related utility work on Old Mill Road and sewer repairs near the movie theater.
Travis also reported a large water-line break on Whitworth Trail involving a 24-inch PVC high-pressure line. He said the water district is investigating replacing the PVC with ductile iron and that, if they do so, the roadway could remain closed for about two months while repairs and replacement occur. He told the council he had coordinated with fire officials about detours and that the road is a pass-through but not a primary emergency route.
In response to a council question about paving in cooler temperatures, Travis explained the standards used by Clark County and local contractors: crews typically will not pave unless the base is 40°F and rising, and the asphalt is laid at about 280°F, so base temperature plus wind conditions determine whether paving can proceed safely.
The council was given no timetable for reopening the affected Whitworth Trail segment beyond the speaker's two-month estimate if replacement were required; staff follow-up and water-district decisions will determine the schedule.
