Summary
District staff reported a clean Louisiana Department of Education desk review for the LA 4 pre-K program, new Title I after-school programming, expanded pre-K registration for 2026–27, and child-nutrition updates including snacks for after-school sites.
At its March 10 meeting, Natchitoches Parish School Board staff reported a positive desk review from the Louisiana Department of Education for the district's LA 4 public pre-K program and described efforts to expand early-childhood enrollment and after-school supports.
Raschel, who presented the federal grants and early-childhood update, said the district received "no findings and no corrective actions" from the state review of the LA 4 program. She reported more than $120,000 generated in indirect cost reimbursements, the launch of a Title I-funded after-school program, and the start of pre-K registration for the 2026–27 school year. Raschel said on-site registration events had begun and staff were partnering with local childcare centers and a marketing firm (Ugly Mug Marketing of Alexandria) to reach families.
A resident asked whether there was a pre-K waiting list; Raschel said there was no waitlist for 2025–26 and that staff had placed interested families. She said registration for 2026–27 began the previous Monday and outlined outreach tools including flyers, newsletters and social media campaigns.
Child Nutrition director Miss Hicks reported that February claims were attached for board review, that the department had begun providing snacks at after-school programs at Weaver Provencal and NJH, and that bids for summer-school food services and related contracts will be solicited with responses due in April.
