Prince William County School Board unanimously adopts $2.94 billion FY2027 budget

Vice Chair Jesse moved adoption of the budget and CIP; the motion was seconded and the board voted 8–0 to approve the measure. Board members said the budget aligns spending with the board’s Elevate 2030 strategic priorities, including investments in early childhood education and student supports.
Board members highlighted several specific investments: funding to begin universal pre‑K expansion, additional classroom supports for students with disabilities, an allocation to add 13 athletic trainers—one at each high school—and a $3.4 million investment in the infrastructure technology fund to support artificial‑intelligence tools, digital quality and data systems. "This budget aligns our resources with our priorities," a board member said during the debate.
Member Wilk declared a conflict of interest under the Virginia State and Local Conflict of Interest Act and noted his wife is employed as a teacher in the system; he stated he could participate fairly and then voted in favor. Board members praised the county partnership and the shared revenue agreement, and they directed the superintendent to forward the fund totals to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors for appropriation.
The board’s adoption completes the school board’s internal approval; staff will present the budget to the Board of County Supervisors for final appropriation. The motion to adopt passed with an on‑record vote of eight yes, unanimous.
