Region 1 Superintendent Lindsay Tomlinson told the council that Virgin Valley High School’s English language arts proficiency rose 2 percentage points to 59% and that students eligible for special education posted a 10.2‑point gain in ELA proficiency. Elementary math rose 1.5 percentage points to 48%, and elementary science had a notable increase of 10.6 points. Tomlinson noted declines in some secondary math measures — including a 4.7‑point drop at Hughes Middle School and a 0.2‑point dip at Virgin Valley High School — and said the district is focusing on fidelity to tier‑1 curriculum, targeted interventions and professional development.
Maurice Perkins, school associate superintendent, highlighted school celebrations, attendance initiatives and extracurricular successes including athletic championships and community outreach events. District staff acknowledged volatility in year‑to‑year results for small cohorts and said they would emphasize long‑term trends and targeted supports where needed.
Council accepted the presentation by motion; no further council action was required.
