Hutchinson County court approves policies, updates purchasing thresholds and designates Alan Wells as county fire marshal

Staff flagged two large appraisal changes: the Precinct 3 maintenance garage contents appraisal rose from about $45,346 to $151,000, and the Precinct 4 maintenance complex appraisal rose to about $176,000; commissioners asked staff to confirm and, where appropriate, leave content values at prior levels for premium calculation.
The court also formally designated Alan Wells as the county’s fire marshal. Wells described his qualifications and limits: "I have my Texas commission on fire protection for investigator, but I'm not attached to an agency," and he said he would investigate causes and refer suspected criminal activity to law enforcement. Commissioners noted an existing stipend line of $10,000 for the fiscal year for the fire marshal role.
Siobhan, the county wellness coordinator, reported on Healthy County activities: Hutchinson County earned $2,170 of a possible $7,000 in incentive funds this year, has a wellness seminar scheduled for April 14 and annual physicals planned for May 20, and staff encouraged county leadership to participate to increase employee engagement and potential reimbursements.
