Commissioners approve partial vacation of USR to remove 39 acres for Farmers Reservoir project

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners voted March 25 to approve a partial vacation of Use-by-Special-Review USR17-0012 (case VAC25-0029) at the request of Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Company.
Diana Aungs of the Department of Planning Services explained that the partial vacation would remove about 39 acres from the existing USR, parcels the applicant said are not required by the original camping use. The subject property lies generally northwest of County Road 47 and adjacent to County Road 30 (the applicant described the location as about 1,150 feet north of County Road 30). Staff recommended approval. Todd Messenger of Fairfield and Woods PC, representing the applicant, said the request was straightforward and intended to remove unused acreage from the prior approval.
Commissioner Jason Maxey moved to approve VAC25-0029, a motion seconded by Commissioner Perry Buck; the board approved the partial vacation by unanimous voice vote. The board’s action removes the specified acreage from USR17-0012; the applicant may pursue placement of a separate USR (referenced as USR260014) on the vacated parcel through the appropriate review process if needed.
The county’s planning staff noted the original USR was approved on Aug. 30, 2017 and recorded Oct. 7, 2020; the partial vacation request was docketed in early 2026 and was circulated to commissioners prior to this meeting.
