Advisory board votes to ask city for clear guidelines on school grant requests

The Community Education Advisory Board voted unanimously to ask the city to provide strict, written guidelines for school principals to submit requests for next fiscal year's grant funding. The board made the request during a discussion about the July-to-June fiscal year and the timing of principal proposals.

"I make a motion that we ask the city to provide strict guidelines for the principals to drop their request for money and get that as soon as possible so they have a chance to get it done," said Committee member (speaker 3), who introduced the motion. The motion was seconded and the board voted in favor.

Board members said the request is intended to avoid a repeat of last year, when members described the funding process as confusing and subject to last-minute changes. Committee member (speaker 2) said the city has recently ratified a new finance director, which should help produce clearer guidance. "We just ratified him on Tuesday," the member said.
