The committee recommended that the board approve reclassification of level‑1 and level‑2 plumbers in the maintenance department to the chiller mechanic salary scale, effective April 15, 2026, a change proposed by Superintendent Corey Butler.
Butler said the change will allow the district to perform more work in‑house and make those positions more attractive to applicants: "This will give us an opportunity to do some of our own work, without having to outsource," he said. Board members supported the objective but asked the superintendent to review pay tiers across other crafts to ensure equitable treatment and avoid creating incentives that shift employees between classifications for higher pay.
The committee moved and seconded the recommendation and approved it with no recorded objections. Staff will implement the reclassification and return with any recommendations for broader craft pay‑structure adjustments if needed.
