Staff explained that the renewed document largely references the original lease's terms, including the tenant's responsibilities for insurance, maintenance and utilities. A staff member summarized: "What we're doing is just in this, we're just review referring back to the original lease, which spelled out all of the details of them having to have insurance, cut the grass, pay the utilities."
Board members welcomed the arrangement but several asked staff to check with the district's attorneys to confirm there are no outstanding legal issues or competing claims to the parcel, and to confirm that the property is part of the Shriver Elementary site rather than a separately subdivided lot.
The committee moved, seconded and approved the recommendation with no recorded objections. Staff said they will confirm legal status and continue with the 2027 renewal schedule.
Next steps: staff to provide any attorney guidance requested and to process the renewal to bring the item to the full board per the committee's action.
