Warrick County election board votes to pay $25 training stipend to all attendees

The Warrick County Election Board voted 3-0 to pay a $25 training stipend to every person who attends scheduled poll-worker training sessions. Chair (speaker 2) moved the measure, which was seconded and approved unanimously.

Board members confirmed training dates tied to early voting: April 1 at 1:00 p.m., and April 14 with sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; another session was discussed for April 21. The stipend amount was described as the training portion of the regular election-day pay: Mike Beach (speaker 1) said the election-day worker rate includes a $25 training component.

Cindy Warren (speaker 4), who raised the question, told the board she had two standby workers and asked whether they would receive pay if they attended training but were not called to work. "If my 2 standby people that I have scheduled right now show up for training and aren't needed, will they get their $25?" she asked. The board discussed whether to cap the number of paid standbys and ultimately approved paying all attendees the $25 stipend.

Members also discussed ancillary pay items. The board noted a $12 lunch reimbursement currently used for training sessions and agreed to gather comparative pay data from neighboring counties to evaluate whether broader rate changes are warranted.

On administration, Mike Beach said he is coordinating distribution of tax documents (W‑4s) and will finalize delivery of those forms to workers by email ahead of training. The board directed staff to circulate finalized training materials and the schedule ahead of the April sessions.
