Board approves purchase of 775 Chromebooks for $403,911 to be funded from Title I

The Danville CCSD 118 Board approved a one-time purchase of 775 student Chromebooks for the 2026–27 school year at a total price of $403,911.25.
Annette Hummel, director of technology, said the district will move students to 14-inch Chromebooks from 11-inch models to improve usability for testing and day-to-day instruction. Hummel said the district usually leases devices with a five-year warranty but chose to purchase this cycle because of cost savings; the five-year warranty will still be in place. She said the purchase will be covered with Title I funds for the 2026–27 year.
Board members asked about device disposal and warranties. Hummel said the district uses a recycling/buyback program and that smaller districts sometimes purchase used devices for continued use. The motion to approve the purchase passed on roll-call (motion carries 7-0).
"We are only going to replace student Chromebooks... a total of, 775 Chromebooks that we'll be replacing this year," Hummel said. "The total cost is $403,911.25 for the total purchase price."
