Board reviews scorecards, attendance and enrollment; chronic absenteeism at 18.16% for February

Harry presented the school-based and county scorecards for February, showing instructional focus areas and school-level indicators.
Harry said the countywide Depth of Knowledge (DOK) average is 1.9 and that the district’s goal is a 2.2 average. "2.2 is what we're looking for as an average," Harry said, noting that an average at that level indicates more time spent at higher-order thinking.
On attendance, Hedrick reported a February attendance rate of 93.44% and a chronic absenteeism rate of 18.16%, down from higher rates earlier in the year. "So since we were 19, I would love to move to 18 and keep, reducing every year," Hedrick said, adding that March incentive programs (a March Madness attendance incentive) were intended to support improvement and that winners would be announced the next day.
Staff reported a county enrollment of 5,104 students, including 1,216 students with Individualized Education Programs (24% of the student body). Nutrition participation metrics were also presented: breakfast participation at 41.23% and lunch participation at 59.36% for February.
Trustees asked for more detail by school on meal participation and indicated interest in receiving periodic school-by-school breakdowns; staff agreed to provide that information on request.
