The Richfield City Council on March 10 adopted a resolution approving a two-year labor agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1215 that will take effect Jan. 1, 2026, and run through Dec. 31, 2027.
Council Member Coleman Woods introduced the agreement, saying it "provides a cost of living adjustment, a market adjustment, and additional steps for captains," and outlined provisions negotiated with the union. The staff report and presentation described a 2026 cost'of'living adjustment of 3 percent, a market adjustment (noted in the presentation as 25.25 percent), a 3 percent COLA in 2027, increases in the clothing and equipment allowance (from $800 to $850 in 2026 and from $850 to $900 in 2027), a new captain pay step after five years in rank, and issuance of a carcinogen'resistant turnout gear bag for new hires in 2026.
Assistant City Manager Zach Talbott thanked staff and the union stewards for the negotiation work and Chief Brooks for assistance in bargaining. Council Member Burke added, "The union process is difficult, definitely, but it's an important right that people have," and thanked participants for reaching an agreement.
Council moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote. Mayor Mary Supple thanked both parties for negotiating in good faith. The agreement also extends the city's insurance benefits and access to the Minnesota paid leave program to members of the bargaining unit.
The resolution directs the city manager to execute the agreement; implementation details (payroll adjustments and effective dates) will be handled by city finance and human-resources staff.
