Hafez told the board he trained in Chicago, practiced as an infectious‑disease physician, and served for 25 years as medical director of the county tuberculosis program before passing that role to a colleague. “I was the medical director for the county program for tuberculosis… I did that for 25 years,” Hafez said, adding that he hopes to contribute professionally and personally to local public health.
The board recognized Angie Perez for 25 years with community‑health programs; colleagues praised her professionalism and service during a short statement and the room gave applause.
Board members and staff also introduced a number of department employees and partners, including the county administrator and nursing and veterinary leaders, ahead of the department updates.
