Zionsville board approves Lincoln Park refresh GMP, opens gazebo naming rights and accepts anonymous Lincoln statue gift

The Zionsville Board of Parks & Recreation approved amendments to the Lincoln Park Refresh public–private agreement and accepted a guaranteed-maximum-price (GMP) proposal that staff said reduces project costs through value engineering. Jared, the parks superintendent, told the board the GMP is $979,792.52 with a $25,762.88 contingency; if contingency is unused the project total would be $954,029.64, which staff said is below previously approved amounts.
Board members praised staff and the vendor for securing cost savings. One committee member said the result was “hundreds of thousands” below earlier bids; another singled out Doug's negotiation work. The board moved and approved the resolution to accept the GMP and amended contract terms.
On a related matter, the board authorized a solicitation for 25-year gazebo naming-rights proposals, set at $100,000 to fund future gazebo replacement. Jared said the fountain is a separate, grandfathered donation; the board discussed co-sponsorships and partnerships and approved the solicitation.
Separately, the parks department presented a public art proposal from an anonymous donor to install a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln Park, with Ryan Feeney of Indie Art Forge selected as the artist. The donor pledged to cover design, casting, installation and initial long-term maintenance; an oversight committee unanimously recommended the board accept the donation contingent on final proofing and a final location. The board approved acceptance and directed staff to return final proofs for review prior to casting.
The board’s approvals move the Lincoln Park refresh and associated site elements toward construction and public installation later this year.
