Germantown board appoints Tim Zimmerman as director of public works after closed session

The Germantown Village Board voted to appoint Tim Zimmerman as the village’s director of public works after a brief closed session and returned to open session to finalize the hire.

Village President Soderbergh called the special meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and introduced Item A — appointment of a public works director — noting the board might convene under Wisconsin Statutes 19.83, 19.84 and 19.851(c) to discuss employment and performance information for a public employee. Attorney Sajak told the board that a closed session was optional but appropriate if trustees wanted to discuss negotiating strategy or specifics of an employment agreement.

Trustee Terry Kaminski moved to go into closed session; a second was recorded. On roll call, Trustee Doline Peeper voted “no” on entering closed session while multiple other trustees registered “aye”; the chair announced the motion carried and the body joined a separate closed-session link to discuss the candidate.

After reconvening in open session, Trustee Kaminski moved to hire Tim Zimmerman “in accordance with his letter of agreement with the village,” and the motion was seconded. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote; the board approved the appointment, and Village President Soderbergh congratulated Zimmerman. Soderbergh said the hire is effective immediately and welcomed plans for a later formal presentation so Zimmerman could invite family and friends.

During discussion, Attorney Sajak noted the compensation in Zimmerman’s agreement is a dollar amount within the village’s existing budgeted range; the exact figure was not read into the public record during the meeting. Trustees offered praise for Zimmerman’s qualifications; Soderbergh said he expected Zimmerman to “do a wonderful job” for the village.

The meeting concluded with the president adjourning the session at about 6:31 p.m.
