Jersey Shore Area SD board authorizes $1.25 million CFA grant application for middle school upgrades

The Jersey Shore Area School District Board of School Directors voted March 9 to authorize Superintendent Dr. Alma Ulmer to submit an application to the Commonwealth Financing Authority for a Pennsylvania School Facilities Improvement Grant totaling $1,250,000, with a 25% local match of roughly $313,000.
"The total amount of work done would be 1,250,000.00. Your match is 25% or 313,000," Dr. Ulmer told the board as she summarized the grant application and attached documentation. She said the application was ready to submit and was due on Friday, and that the authority’s timeline for awards would likely put any work and planning into November.
Dr. Ulmer outlined the proposed projects the district included in the grant request: replacement of doors at the middle school with ADA-compliant hardware; new flooring in the middle school; and exterior repointing and cleaning of brick where the façade is failing. She said those kinds of projects have been funded by the program in other districts.
The superintendent also noted letters of support were attached to the submission from Representative Borowitz, Representative Hamm and Senator Yalt. Board members asked procedural questions but took no substantive amendments to the proposal.
Chair called a voice vote; the motion to authorize the application passed.
Next steps: with the authorization in hand the district will submit the application before the Friday deadline and, if awarded, expects to receive a timeline from the Commonwealth Financing Authority that would influence what can be scheduled for the coming school year.
