Board highlights unified program, winter sports and approves new varsity coaches

The Woodhaven-Brownstown Board of Education heard updates on unified, middle and high school winter athletics March 10 and approved four Schedule B athletic employments.
Unified sports coordinator Alicia Flynn described a season with two unified basketball teams totaling about 40 students in grades 7–12, clinic events, tournament play including a visit to Little Caesars Arena, community partnerships and student-made thank-you gifts for supporters. Flynn thanked coaches, transportation staff and volunteers and recognized unified seniors by name.
Middle-school and high-school athletic presentations reviewed participation increases, team records and academic all-league recognitions. Athletic director Chris Nagle noted the girls basketball team's 16–0 league record and academic achievements and highlighted individual qualifiers in wrestling, swimming and other sports.
The board approved Schedule B hires effective March 11: Brandon Crane (varsity track assistant), Amelia Meehoek (varsity volleyball head coach), Michael Pintar (varsity football head coach) and Andrew Schuler (varsity boys soccer head coach). The approvals were made by motion and voice vote.
