Temple ISD trustees voted March 9 to approve several construction and facilities contracts funded by 2025 bond proceeds and to authorize the administration to proceed with contractor negotiations.
Facilities staff (speaker 7) recommended a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $1,156,579 for renovations to the Temple High School Ag barn. The board was told the work includes animal pen redesigns, fencing, lighting, ventilation and drainage, with an April start and completion targeted by Dec. 31 to minimize animal displacement.
The board also approved a GMP of $1,705,597 to replace HVAC equipment in Temple High School administrative offices. The GMP covers demolition, installation of new units and controls, and includes restroom renovations; staff said the project will be scheduled to begin after school ends and complete by mid-August. The purchase of HVAC units had been previously approved and the units cost approximately $242,000, staff said.
For Scott and Western Hills gymnasiums, staff recommended a probable-cost contract with Cloud Construction for $355,988 covering new court flooring, lighting, fire-alarm upgrades, interior painting and wall repairs, plus a requested contingency allowance of up to 5% ($17,800) for unforeseen needs. Cloud will begin purchasing materials so work can start when school is out.
Staff also reported the district completed a two-step CMAR (construction manager at risk) selection process for 2025 bond projects; scores and pricing were used to rank firms, and the administration is authorized to negotiate with top-ranked firms for each project.
Board members approved the recommended GMPs, the gym contract and the process to proceed with CMAR negotiations by voice/show of hands.
