The Veterans Services Advisory Committee reported higher benefit flows into Kerr County and updated the court on Freedom's Path, a 55-unit veteran-focused housing project under construction; commissioners accepted the quarterly report unanimously.
Gary Noller presented the Veterans Services Advisory Committee's quarterly report on Tuesday, summarizing a five-month survey by the Texas Veterans Commission showing an upward trend in benefit payments to Kerr County veterans.
Noller said county veterans-service officers and partners are helping veterans obtain disability benefits, pensions and dependent indemnity compensation; he told the court the committee's data show a substantial annual benefits inflow (the committee cited roughly $5.747 million for calendar year 2025, as reported to the court).
Noller and committee members also updated commissioners on Freedom's Path, a 55-unit housing complex under construction near the animal shelter that is designed for veterans and low-income seniors. The project started in February with an estimated 10-month schedule; county staff are coordinating a waterline connection and other infrastructure work.
Commissioners welcomed the report and accepted it unanimously. The court also heard praise of committee outreach events at the VA community living center and was told that a new VA outpatient clinic in Boerne (expected in 2027) will expand local access to MRI and specialty care for veterans.
"It's a good thing for veterans," Noller said of Freedom's Path, emphasizing the project's benefits for housing availability in the region.
