Students from across district present leadership, service and CTE successes to board
Summary
Student leaders from Cibola, Healy Ridge, Summerton and other campuses described community service, athletics achievements, dual enrollment totals and student advisory structures; district leaders said student voice groups inform nutrition, safety and professional development priorities.
The governing board heard a series of student presentations and informational reports on March 12 highlighting student leadership and advisory groups across district campuses.
Student leaders from Cibola High School (Lacey Gonzales and Julian Castillo) described community-service projects (book donations, adopting families), arts and athletics accomplishments, and grant-funded classroom enhancements. Healy Ridge and other campuses presented similar summaries of athletics, club activity, dual and concurrent enrollment participation, and career and technical education highlights.
Lauren Simpson, director of student supports, and campus administrators described a range of student advisory structures: athletic councils, student senate organizations and student voice committees that meet regularly to provide feedback to school leadership. Presenters said student voice groups have influenced professional development, nutrition sampling, safety protocols and advisory lessons. Students gave concrete examples including volunteer projects, partnership events with elementary classrooms, and plans to host the 2027 state ASC conference at Cibola.
Board members thanked students and staff for the presentations and encouraged continued student involvement. The session was informational; no board action followed.
