At the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Affordable Housing Trust, Chair Doug opened a conversation about rotating leadership and trustees agreed to new roles for the coming year. Doug nominated Paul Desmond for chair; Paul accepted and the board voted to approve the nomination. Doug then nominated Ellen for vice chair; the board also approved that nomination.
"I nominate Paul Desmond for chair of the... the board of trustees of the Affordable Housing Trust," Doug said. Paul accepted: "Sure." Trustees cast voice votes in favor.
Separately, Alan reported that the Community Preservation Committee voted to support the Trust’s CPC application (one nay vote at the CPC). The Trust agreed to present the request at Town Meeting in April and to keep remarks brief—one suggested approach was a single slide plus a short handout summarizing the trust’s objectives and the CPC request.
Ellen offered to update the prior presentation slides and to draft a one-page handout. Trustees agreed to coordinate who will speak at Town Meeting; Doug said he is willing to present as his final act as chair and that Paul will take the chair role at the next meeting.
Why it matters: the CPC backing and an effective Town Meeting presentation could determine whether the Trust secures continuing funding for housing initiatives. Trustees emphasized transparency and a concise public explanation of how Trust funds will be used.
Next steps: Ellen will draft updated presentation materials and a handout for the trustees to review; Doug will forward prior slides to be adapted for Town Meeting.
