Georgia Pacific Dixie Jackson awarded a $20,000 grant to Jackson Madison County Schools to expand districtwide robotics programs, speakers said.
A district agency official said the donation is intended to grow local STEM opportunities. "Dixie recently awarded a $20,000 grant to support robotics programs across the district, helping ensure the next generation of engineers and manufacturing professionals can come from right here in our community," the agency official said.
A presenter representing the community partner described the company's goal as supporting the school system. "We're here to help support the Jackson Madison County School system as we're continuing to seek to be a preferred partner in the community," the presenter said.
The presenter highlighted student benefits, saying, "It helps, build teamwork, being able to be collaborative, which is important in the workforce. It helps create critical thinking, and it's always good to be able to learn and have fun at the same time." The district official added that "the earlier students are exposed to the engineering design process, the more their confidence and problem solving abilities grow," and that those skills "extend far beyond robotics and support student success throughout their entire K 12 experience."
The district did not specify how the $20,000 would be allocated across individual schools or programs. Jackson Madison County Schools celebrated the partnership and its potential to strengthen local pathways into engineering and manufacturing careers.
