The Centennial Education Association (CEA) and district negotiators reported a tentative successor collective bargaining agreement during the March 11 meeting and outlined next steps toward ratification.
Drew Rosa, president of the Centennial Education Association, said the bargain improves class‑size protections, compensation and working conditions that the union argues will help retain educators and support students. Rosa said the agreement was made possible by bargaining teams, member engagement and community support.
Rosa described the ratification timeline: the union planned to bring an MOU to ECBC (the East Kelly Bargaining Council) on Tuesday, seek ECBC approval, then send materials to members for ratification; he said ECBC consideration could occur on March 17 with the goal of returning a ratified contract to the board for its April meeting. Superintendent Owens and Rosa both said the district is preparing redlined language to transition bargaining concepts into contract text and expressed confidence in an efficient timeline.
Board members asked for clarification about next steps and timing; the superintendent said April was the district's target for presentation to the board pending union ratification steps.
What's next: CEA membership and ECBC ratification steps, followed by board consideration in April as described in the meeting.
