Council approves rezoning of 715 Rowntree Avenue to allow multifamily housing

The Platteville Common Council on March 24 approved a rezoning request for 715 Rowntree Avenue to allow multifamily housing.
Planning staff explained the property is approximately 0.31 acres on the southeast corner of Gridley and Rowntree avenues and is currently zoned R2 (one- and two-family). Staff and the plan commission recommended rezoning to R3 to permit multifamily units; staff cautioned the total units that could be built depends on unit sizes and parking requirements.
Applicant Nick Claus briefly introduced himself and said he is exploring options for how best to utilize the parcel. No public statements in favor or against were registered with the clerk; no members of the public spoke at the hearing.
Council moved to close the public hearing and then voted to approve the rezoning. The motion carried on recorded votes.
