Councilor Bagley reported that the Airport Advisory Committee prioritized four items: safety and security upgrades (lighting and cameras), a mobile Jet A fueling trailer (500-gallon) to serve turbine aircraft, expanding hangar capacity (initial six-bay expansion), and installing a visual approach slope indicator to aid pilots on approach into Caribou.
Bagley said staff will pursue FAA grant opportunities and noted the committee identified financing and FAA-entitlement options to support initial work. Councilors discussed operational concerns about Jet A fuel (shelf life, daily checks, certification/maintenance requirements) and potential partnerships with nearby airports (Presque Isle) to manage fuel aging or swaps.
On a separate airport item, the council voted to authorize the city manager to execute paperwork to loan $90,000 in FAA entitlement funds to the town of Princeton; staff noted Caribou has done similar entitlement loans in the past and Princeton will repay the entitlements in FY2027.
