Titus County backs resolution urging Legislature to remove cap on local fuel-tax share
Summary
The Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution supporting state legislation that would let counties keep the full one-cent-per-gallon local share of the state motor-fuels tax rather than the current capped amount, potentially increasing local road funding if passed by the Legislature.

Titus County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution supporting proposed state legislation to remove the cap on the local share of the state motor-fuels tax and return the full one cent per gallon to counties.
The chair described the measure as similar to a resolution circulated by the judge in Cass County and said that, if enacted, it would increase money available locally for roads and volunteer fire departments. The chair said counties currently receive a limited percent of the tax back and that the cap has not changed since 1954, arguing the change could bring substantially more funds to county projects.
A commissioner moved to approve the resolution and the motion carried without opposition. The court directed that the signed resolution be sent to Austin in support of the legislative effort.
The resolution is an expression of support only; it does not commit county funds beyond currently appropriated budgets and will not change local law unless the Legislature enacts corresponding statutory changes.
