Churchill County commissioners authorized immediate recruitment for the social services director, approved a revision to the job description and set interim compensation parameters, and approved a $2,000 monthly stipend to Shannon Ernst for a 60‑day interim period.
Joe Sanford told the commission Shannon Ernst had resigned to become administrator at the Central Nevada Health District. Staff and Baker Tilly's draft compensation study place the role at a recommended grade 24 (range $115,325–$155,000), but because the county's new pay table is not yet adopted, the board chose to advertise using the closest existing grade and set hiring parameters so the position can be adjusted when the new table is adopted. The board ultimately set compensation at grade 81 of the current pay scale for recruitment purposes.
Sanford also said Ernst has agreed to assist the county for 60 days on a stipend basis. "Shannon has agreed to assist us for the next 60 days, on a stipend basis, $2,000," he said. Commissioners asked that staff attempt to fill the role before July 1 if possible and return with any requests for adjustments once the Baker Tilly study is finalized.
The motion to approve immediate recruitment, job description revision, compensation at grade 81 and a $2,000 monthly interim stipend to Shannon Ernst for 60 days was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
