Select Board licensing actions: 7 Subs declared closed; Mariucci hearing continued pending reinspection

Summary
After staff recounted failed inspections and the absence of a renewal application, the board declared the business 7 Subs closed and authorized staff to act if it continues operating without a license. The licensing hearing for Mariucci Select was continued so the fire department can re‑inspect repairs to the hood suppression system.
The Select Board heard two licensing matters during its March 24 meeting.
Licensing staff told the board that 7 Subs failed to submit a renewal application after earlier hearings and had not responded to outreach. The board voted unanimously to declare the business closed; staff said they would notify operators that the business is operating without authority and would take enforcement action if it continued to operate.
On an alleged license violation at Mariucci Select, Deputy Chief Todd Kanter of the Fire Department reported that inspections beginning November 20 found the hood suppression system non‑compliant on multiple visits, most recently March 4. A business representative told the board that a technician from Impact Fire had repaired the hood and provided documentation. Deputy Chief Kanter and licensing staff said the department must re‑inspect before a final licensing determination; the hearing was continued to an April licensing‑panel session pending reinspection paperwork and verification.
Deputy Chief Kanter summarized the inspection history and the department’s last visit in March: "The inspector found that their hood suppression system was in a noncompliant status... most recently on March 4, it still was in a non compliant status, and it shouldn't be being used at this point." The business representative said a technician corrected the issue and offered paperwork for the fire department to review.
The board’s actions preserved the town’s enforcement options and required the business to submit documentation and to undergo a reinspection before the Select Board would make a final determination.
Next steps: Licensing staff will accept the vendor's paperwork, coordinate a reinspection with the Fire Department, and return the matter to the licensing panel and then the Select Board if staff declines to resolve the matter administratively.
