York County's Board of Equalization approved a set of tax-list corrections at the March 17 session after the county assessor explained they resulted from an audit by the Department of Revenue Property Assessment Division, which compared homestead-exemption information to IRS income records.
Assessor Alden said the cross-check for 2022 returns yielded a higher-than-usual number of corrections, and that taxpayers listed had received earlier notice and an appeal window in mid-January; those who do not pay within 30 days of the corrected statements will begin accruing interest.
Commissioners moved to approve the corrections en masse and voted by roll call to adopt them. Staff said the treasurer has a 30-day window for payment after statements are sent and that more audit-driven corrections for later years may appear as the state completes additional reviews.
