The Natrona County Commission voted March 17 to allow staff to apply for a $50,000 Wyoming Energy Authority LED retrofit grant that requires a 10% local match.
A county presenter asked for the commission’s support to submit an application; facilities staff detailed cost‑estimate scenarios. "If we did one floor... it would be about $35,000 for one floor, with a Rocky Mountain incentive of $10,000 back, so the total out of pocket for just one floor would be about $25,000," the presenter said. For a whole‑building package with smart controls, staff estimated a pre‑incentive cost of roughly $137,000 and an estimated Rocky Mountain incentive of about $56,000, leaving about $80,000 out of pocket before the county grant, and projected average annual electrical savings of several thousand dollars.
Commissioners signaled support and a motion to proceed with the application passed by voice vote. Staff said precise budget figures and a proposed budget entry would be provided during the next budget season.
The commission’s approval allows staff to submit the grant application; a grant award, if received, and final scope would be considered during the county budget process.
